Questions
Getting started
What does SpeakApp run on?
Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. It is a desktop application, not a browser tab — that is what lets it write at your cursor in any app.
Can I try it without a card?
Yes. The Free plan needs no card and does not expire. It has every feature — only the volumes are smaller.
Do I need an internet connection?
For dictation, reading and the AI features, yes: the work happens on servers. What stays on your machine stays on your machine — see the security page.
Dictation
How do I start dictating?
With a shortcut you choose. Press it, speak, and the text lands where your cursor is.
Where does the dictated text go?
At your cursor, in whatever application has focus — your editor, your browser, your chat, your email. It is a system capability, so it does not depend on the app.
Cleanup, dictionary, transforms — what is the difference?
Cleanup removes the hesitations and false starts from what you just said. The dictionary makes sure your own words — names, jargon, product names — come out right. Transforms turn what you said into something else: an email, a summary, a tidier paragraph.
How many languages?
40 for dictation.
Listening and answering
What happens when an AI answer is ready?
SpeakApp notices the answer is finished and reads it to you. You do not have to watch the window to know it has landed.
Can I hear a summary instead of the whole answer?
Yes. You choose between the full answer and a summary of it.
Does it work with cloud sessions?
No, and this is the one limit worth knowing before you install. Reading takes the content at its source — the conversation trace on disk for desktop apps, the page itself for the browser. A conversation whose execution is remote leaves its effects on your disk but never its dialogue, so there is nothing to read, and answering falls with it. Everything else works.
Do reading and dictation work in the same applications?
Dictation works everywhere in Windows — it does not depend on the application. Reading and answering work with the desktop assistants and with their web versions through the browser extension.
Commands, Hey Speak and privacy
Commands or saved texts — which is which?
A command performs a gesture you repeat. A saved text drops a block of text you would otherwise retype.
Is the microphone listening from the moment I install it?
No. Nothing is captured until you trigger it.
What does Hey Speak do today?
You ask out loud and get an answer out loud. Short questions it answers directly; longer ones it hands to the assistant you already use.
Does SpeakApp keep the content of my conversations?
No. What is processed to produce an answer is not kept as a conversation archive. The full detail, including every sub-processor, is on the French security and privacy pages.
How do I reach support or report a bug?
By email at support@speakapp.work, or with the bug-report link in the footer of every page. A person answers.
