Before contacting us

Many questions are answered in:

Application bug or crash

If SpeakApp crashes or behaves unexpectedly, please include:

  • Your SpeakApp version (Settings → About)
  • Windows version (Windows 10 / Windows 11)
  • Description of what you were doing when the issue occurred
  • If possible, the debug.log file from the installation directory

Providing this information avoids another round of questions and speeds diagnosis.

Troubleshooting common issues

These are quick fixes for frequent situations. Check them before contacting support; most take about 30 seconds.

Automatic Reading of AI replies no longer starts in Chrome

After several hours, automatic playback of ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude.ai replies may stop in Chrome because the SpeakApp Bridge extension lost its connection to your tabs while the browser was conserving memory. Chrome may suspend inactive extensions.

Quick fix

Refresh the AI tabs using F5 (or Ctrl+R). The extension reconnects automatically and speech playback resumes.

An automatic fix is planned in a future release to remove this manual step.

Global Reading no longer activates after restarting the application

When you close and reopen SpeakApp, Global Reading is intentionally reset to OFF as a safety measure, so it cannot unexpectedly play content from AI sessions you have not reviewed.

Quick fix

Turn Global Reading on again in SpeakApp Control Center using the 🔊 button at the top, or the keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+².

SpeakApp Bridge stops working after a Chrome update

After recent Chrome updates (version 132 and later), the browser may temporarily disable third-party extensions while checking compatibility. SpeakApp Bridge can then appear inactive in AI tabs.

Quick fix

Open chrome://extensions/, find “SpeakApp Bridge,” switch it off and back on using the control on the right, then refresh AI tabs with F5.

No sound comes from the speakers while SpeakApp is running

If SpeakApp is running (visible in the Windows taskbar) but there is no spoken playback, check the system volume, speaker or headset connection, and then the app-specific volume in Windows Volume Mixer (right-click the sound icon → Volume Mixer).

Quick fix

If SpeakApp is muted in Volume Mixer, raise its volume. If playback still fails, close and reopen SpeakApp from its taskbar icon.

How to start Google AntiGravity so it works correctly with SpeakApp

SpeakApp automatically prepares Google AntiGravity during its first launch so that Reading and automatic permissions work in AntiGravity sessions (Manager and IDE). You do not need to manually configure this.

Procedure

Launch SpeakApp once on your PC. It detects the Google AntiGravity installation and automatically prepares Windows shortcuts (Start menu, taskbar, Desktop). From then on, start AntiGravity as usual: Windows search (Windows+S, type “antigr”), Start menu, taskbar or a session in Agent Manager. SpeakApp connects automatically.

If AntiGravity updates and speech playback stops in its sessions, simply close and restart SpeakApp once. It updates the shortcuts automatically without technical intervention.

Using SpeakApp with another browser (Edge, Opera, Brave, Vivaldi)

SpeakApp works with Google Chrome and other browsers built on the same technology: Microsoft Edge, Opera, Brave and Vivaldi. Reading, Dictation and AI control operate in the same way.

Install SpeakApp itself from the Download page, regardless of browser. What varies is installing the SpeakApp companion extension, which connects the browser to the Windows application. It comes from the Chrome Web Store.

Brave and Vivaldi: no additional step

Both browsers accept Chrome Web Store extensions directly, just like Chrome.

Procedure

Open the SpeakApp extension in the Chrome Web Store from Brave or Vivaldi and select Add. Spoken playback works after installation.

Microsoft Edge: allow extensions from other stores once

Edge has its own add-ons store. On first installation, it asks permission before allowing an extension from the Chrome Web Store, as a normal security measure.

Procedure

Open the SpeakApp Chrome Web Store page in Edge. A banner appears: select “Allow extensions from other stores”, then “Add extension”. Edge remembers this permission afterward.

Opera: install a free helper extension once

Opera has its own store. To install Chrome Web Store extensions, first add a free bridge called “Install Chrome Extensions”; this takes about ten seconds.

Procedure

Install the free “Install Chrome Extensions” helper from Opera's add-on store, then open the SpeakApp Chrome Web Store page and select Add to Opera. You only do this once.

Edge and Opera need these extra steps only at the first installation. We are working to simplify installation in a future release. Safari and Firefox are not yet supported.
