Get notified when ChatGPT finishes replying
With SpeakApp, ChatGPT's reply in Chrome is read aloud as soon as it is ready, after your other agents' replies; you say “ok”, answer, say “enter” and your message goes into the right conversation. ChatGPT also has its own notification settings, which this page sums up from OpenAI's help center. If several replies land at once, they are read one after another, at your pace.
How do you get notified with SpeakApp?
SpeakApp reads ChatGPT's replies on the web, in Chrome or Edge, through its extension. As soon as ChatGPT finishes answering, its reply joins the queue and is read aloud to you, after your other agents' replies.
- Send your request in ChatGPT and move on: a meeting, an email to a client, another session.
- The reply lands: the toast, the card at the top right of your screen, offers read, skip, later, reply and open. The widget's circle counts what is waiting.
- Listen to what ChatGPT produced, then say “ok” to answer that conversation.
- Dictate your answer and say “enter”: it is pasted and sent into the ChatGPT conversation that spoke.
A notification only tells you something happened. Hearing the reply gives you the content before you decide whether to go back to the tab.
What does ChatGPT offer itself?
According to OpenAI's help center on scheduled tasks, ChatGPT's notifications are set in Settings, then Notifications: push, email, or both. For browser notifications, your browser has to allow them. That help page describes scheduled tasks: to know what your ChatGPT sends when an ordinary reply ends, check the same settings screen in your account.
Those settings give you an alert. Reading the reply aloud and answering into the right conversation are what SpeakApp adds.
When several agents answer at the same time
A ChatGPT conversation drafts an explanation, a Codex session sorts a sales file, a Claude Code session reviews a client proposal. The replies wait in the queue and are read to you one after another; you say “ok” for the one on display, “skip” for the next, “later” to keep it.
Keep going
- Reply to ChatGPT by voice in Chrome
- Have ChatGPT's replies read aloud
- Get notified when Codex finishes a task
- Get a notification when Claude Code is done
SpeakApp does not read sessions that run in the cloud.
Frequently asked questions
How do I hear that a ChatGPT reply is ready?
With SpeakApp and its Chrome or Edge extension, ChatGPT's reply on the web is read aloud as soon as it is ready, in your agents' queue. The toast offers read, skip, later, reply and open.
Can I answer ChatGPT by voice?
Yes. Say “ok” to answer the conversation on the toast, dictate your answer, then say “enter”: it goes into the ChatGPT conversation that spoke.
Does ChatGPT have its own notifications?
Yes, according to OpenAI's help center: a Notifications setting allows push, email or both, and your browser has to allow web notifications. That help page describes scheduled tasks, so check your account for what is sent for an ordinary reply.
What happens if several conversations have a reply ready?
They wait in a queue and are read one after another. The widget's circle counts what is still waiting.
Does a ready reply mean the task succeeded?
No. A reply can announce a result, ask a question or flag a problem. Check the result before you accept it.
