Claude voice alternative for Windows

Talking to Claude by voice keeps you inside that conversation. SpeakApp tackles a different problem: on a Windows PC, it monitors the conversations you have started, notices when a reply finishes or a session stalls, and reads the answer—or simply alerts you—while you work on something else.

Where the difference matters most: parallel sessions

Working with an agent is not necessarily a continuous conversation. You start a task, turn to something else, come back, and start another. A real-time voice conversation targets one session while you are in it. SpeakApp is designed for the handoffs between several sessions. That is the specific difference this page claims.

How to read this table: the middle column describes the structural behavior of a real-time voice conversation, not results measured in Anthropic's product. SpeakApp capabilities are features documented on our Features page.

Choose SpeakApp when…

  • You run several conversations at once. Instead of checking each window, use end-of-reply detection and the listening queue.
  • You want to know a reply is ready without reading it. The notify-instead-of-read mode tells you the reply is there. You decide whether to play it, skip it, or hear a summary.
  • You dictate frequently. Dictation types at the cursor in Windows apps including editors, browsers, and email—not just inside AI chat windows.
  • You want to keep your tools. SpeakApp uses your installed software. You do not move to a new workspace or configure the assistant to accept an integration.

Stay with a real-time voice conversation when…

  • You want an immediate back-and-forth. A real-time voice conversation does this well; SpeakApp does not replace it.
  • You primarily work on a phone. SpeakApp is a Windows desktop app.
  • You use only one conversation. Parallel-session management has much less value without parallel work.

What the comparison table does not show

  • Remotely executed cloud sessions are not visible to SpeakApp. Listening reads content at its source: a conversation trace on disk or the webpage in your browser. A remote execution leaves its results on disk, but not its dialogue, so neither listening nor voice replies can reach it.
  • After roughly six hours, an old conversation is not resumed in the listening queue, with no warning.
  • Windows only for now.

Frequently asked questions

Does SpeakApp work with Claude?

Yes, with the desktop app and the web version through the browser extension. SpeakApp reads what is displayed and types at the cursor: it requires no integration on the assistant's side, no setting to accept, and nothing to install on its end. However, a session whose execution runs in the cloud is not readable.

How does SpeakApp know a reply is finished?

Through end-of-reply detection, the engine the other reading features depend on. It recognizes when a conversation has finished, has stalled, or is waiting for something from you. A stalled session is the case no system notification can signal, since, precisely, nothing happens in it.

Can I reply by voice?

Yes. After listening, dictate your answer into the targeted session. Say the customizable word “ok” to send your reply to the correct session. “Reply” is a button, not a spoken command. The same cursor dictation mechanism also works in other Windows applications.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The €0 Free plan includes all features with monthly allowances; paid plans raise those allowances. See the current pricing page for each plan's exact limits.
